Teardown of Google Pixel 3 Reveals New Hardware

The launch of the Pixel 3 might not have been a surprise to many, considering the number of leaks that were being circulated. But that does not mean that Google can’t keep a surprise. In fact, you need to unearth to find the surprise. That turns out to be literal when coming to the Pixel 3.

When tearing down the Pixel 3, many had several questions. Is the phone using a screen manufactured by LG, or did it change the tide and turned to someone else for the hardware? Turns out that Google Pixel 3 uses Samsung’s AMOLED screen. And Samsung’s screens are one of the best in the market. Well, that is enough to tally it up. Google wants the best screens for its phones, and it did not hesitate to use a rival company’s hardware for it.

Hardware and Chips

But that is not all. You dig more into the phone, and you get to find the phone’s main components, the Pixel Visual Core and the new Titan security chip that Google proudly showed off at its event. The Piel Visual Core chip enables Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL to take AI fueled HDR+ photos. This will only work with apps that support the standard Android camera framework.

And that is a great news for users. Instead of depending only on Google’s own custom camera app, users can now use apps of their choice, only if they comply with the framework, that is. And there are also a ton of goodies behind that big notch too. A lot of cameras and speaker hardware. No wonder the Pixel 3 sounds so good! And about the camera, well, don’t we already know that? Google again managed to score the name of the best camera yet in the smartphone market.

Great Build Quality

Now that’s a lot of stuff inside two phones. And that might partly be the reason on why the Pixel 3 XL has a smaller battery when compared to the Pixel 2 XL, its ancestor. The Pixel 3 XL has a 13.2Wh battery while the Pixel 2 Xl had a 3520mAh battery. But for sure, Google has done a good job with this phone. The phone is well built and has all the specifications, brain and speed that one needs.

But don’t try to go ahead and dig for yourself. The Pixel 3 XL, being a well-built phone, is a tightly integrated phone and leaves no room for tinkering. Getting inside the phone requires carefully ungluing the glass back, and if you want to fix the display, then you would have to tear down the whole phone, and assembling it back is a sure mammoth task!
