Facebook Now Rips Geo-Location Feature from Snapchat

Facebook is down. And that is both literal but also at the same time metaphorical. The social network has been brought under fire for privacy issues, and then was heavily hacked. This obviously has frightened a ton of people, and now many are considering if it is worth it to continue in the social network.

The younger generation of internet users have already forgone Facebook, and this is shown in the decline of users. But Facebook is still vigorously fighting to get back its users. And by fighting, we mean copying. The company has once again set its eyes on features that Snapchat currently has or has introduced to up Facebook’s game.

New Rip

Facebook famously ripped of Snapchat stories and slapped it on itself, Instagram and even WhatsApp. Now Facebook is going for yet another feature and that is the geo-location. But this is not something new for Facebook. Facebook already had a geo-location feature, but it never really took off. The geo-location feature had the ability to locate friends and see what they are up to or where they are going.

But now the company has changed the way this service is being presented, and it would be safe to say that the company has pretty much been inspired by the way Snapchat goes through this service. The goal is to get Snapchat users, mostly the young crowd to see that Facebook also has the same features and ultimately bring those users to Facebook. Facebook just wants to let the world know that it is still young and not ready to die.

The way Snapchat goes through this service is much more appealing as one can find a particular user and then find even the list of addresses of his or her friends. You can browse the map and then click on their icon to check on their stories or their latest activities. This brings in both the pleasure of going through your friends day, but also have the opportunity of discovering new and interesting content.

Better Updates

But there is a catch. Facebook is letting users decide if they want to have this feature turned on or not. Honestly, that’s a bummer because there is no point in this feature if the person does not want to share them. Of course, one can always disable this feature by toggling the location on or off, but unlink Snapchat, this feature ruins the fun.

But we also need to remember that this feature is just on a trial basis, and so we will have to wait and see the kind of new upgrades or changes that Facebook would be bringing to this service.
