Meeting the extremes of modern day privacy
What is privacy? and how it is different from modern day privacy? Interestingly, both aren’t the same. Because the moment you get to know that all your data is already under control of the giants like Google and Facebook, privacy is already out of hands.
Yes, that’s modern day privacy — It is nothing but believing that your activities online are private, but not actually private.
Privacy was something special and still is special, but only to the public. The primary reason for our sensitive data being on the Internet with the giants isn’t a thing started off by them. It is us, the people who sign up without checking out how our privacy is affected (of course, we’re not the one to blame).
Government
As we’ve clearly mentioned in our older articles, governments start putting hands into regulating the giants like Google and Facebook to avoid invading too much the privacy of the users.
Today, some of the giants themselves are taking strong actions to ensure our privacy. Apple, which is one of the worlds most valuable company, has always showed respect to privacy because data was never exploited as a source of income.
Recently, Apple made a huge change to their software privacy program which seriously impacted giants like Facebook and Google.
Apple Privacy
To put in simple words, Apple started asking users to confirm whether or not to allow apps like Facebook to track them out of Facebook. Interestingly, when this issue came up, lots of users came to find out that Facebook was actually tracking them once they were using other apps or websites.
Well, Apple didn’t ban that, they made changes to iOS which will ask user permission to allow or reject tracking them outside the application. Facebook tracks users in and out in order to collect data even when a user isn’t using Facebook, helping them to personalise ads from their advertisers benefit.
Well, Apple just started asking questions and Facebook didn’t like it.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook burst out questioning Apple about their new privacy change stating that it will affect millions of small business owners who users Facebook’s advanced tracking system to sell their products and services.
Bottom Line
Well, it looks like a war is ON. Apple is definitely not going to pull back their new privacy feature and of course they’re not forcefully banning external tracking, they are just giving permission to users to allow or reject (which we know most of the users including small business owners will reject).
But Facebook’s loss is huge and they’re fighting hard for it. The final result is still nowhere near. Possibly Facebook as a giant will come up with something that will change their advertising targeting system for iOS.
Let’s wait and see!
