Intel Moves Forward in the 5G Race with Introduction of New Chip

Apart from Artificial Intelligence, there is yet another technology that everyone is looking forward to, and that is 5G. There is some tough competition for that technology too. And among the various competitors are Intel and Qualcomm. But recent developments are proving that Intel would be smashing Qualcomm to the dust pretty soon.

Seems like with what Intel is doing, it is not going to let Qualcomm claim a lengthy lead in 5G mobile chipsets. The company is stepping up progress and is getting busy to launch its new 5G modem by this year. Named the XMM 8160, this wireless part is due to arrive in the second half of 2019 and is expected to boost up performance in devices, and at the same time also make devices ready for 5G.

Faster and Better

The chip supports LTE among earlier technologies too. This is a good news as now device makers can concentrate on making just one chip instead of two chips that consume both space and battery life. The chip also promises top performance not just in mobile phones, but also in PCs and home broadband too. With a promised 6Gbps in speed for phones, this is a technology that’s been welcomed.

Though the modem is ready, the devices are not. The first products aren’t expected until the first half of 2020. Now if that seems too long for you, we need to remember that manufacturing devices to these new chips are not practical at the moment. Without 5G technology kicking off, releasing such phones would be pointless.

Cutting Edge Technology

And so rumours of devices rolling out only by 2020 seems to be the truth. And so its even too early to predict how these devices will turn out to be without knowing all the facts at hand. But we can be sure that these 5G devices would now feature a Qualcomm chip, thus assuring both speed and also intelligence.

Another thing that we can look forward is the chip. With two technologies coming together to a single chip, device makers now would have both the technology and also the space to bring new technologies to pocket devices, thus pushing the limits of smartphones to a higher degree. With such new technologies coming to the front, the future sure looks exciting.
