Instagram Launches Feature Exclusive to University Students
If you remember how Facebook began, you might recall that Facebook was initially intended only for students from a particular industry, and not for everyone and anyone. That brought in the aspect of exclusivity, and that was pivotal for the social network’s success. Now that Facebook has achieved everything it had to achieve, it has now begun playing the old card trick on Instagram.
Instagram is turning out to be the coolest social network right now. Many have already walked out on Facebook, and they turn to the platform that everything else happens, Instagram. Instagram has recently announced a brand new feature that once again brings the exclusivity that made Facebook what it is today.
Exclusivity Features
Right now, Instagram is rolling out a feature that allows students to find other students from the same university community. Few Instagram users are being invited to join groups that are based on their accounts, connections and also publications. This amazing initiative by Instagram is great at many levels.
One, a user can find and follow friends and fellow students around him, as they all go to the same university. One also gets recommendations from alumni members too. Though this is the fun aspect, there is another one too, and that is to verify if a particular user study at a university or not. This verification is possible because the verification email goes to the university email address, and not the personal email address of the user.
Once the verification email is received, the user must then select the university and add in details like year of graduation, among others. Once a user has completed this information list, then they would be able to access the list of other users as well. With that, users would be able to text fellow students, find people from the same class and also view their stories or chat via Direct Messaging.
Overhaul of Features
Though this feature has been rolled out to a few select users, there is still a few bugs in the system, and they are expected to be corrected before the official launch. A few users reported being invited to a university group when they were no longer a student at that particular university.
This is just some of the various new features that Instagram is testing at the moment. It is necessary for the application to come up with some top-notch features as Facebook needs to retain users, or it could see the whole company come crashing down in an instant. Another reason why Instagram needs to come up with unique features is that it needs to compete with Snapchat, and also attract the younger population to the platform.
