Hidden “Likes” feature in Instagram is being tested across countries
In April, Instagram tested a new feature in Canada which hides users “like count” on each post. The feature makes sure that none of your followers could see the number of likes you’ve gained for a post. In a note, the Instagram team mentions that “We want your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get.”
We’re currently running a test that hides the total number of likes and video views for some people in the following countries:
✅ Australia
✅ Brazil
✅ Canada
✅ Ireland
✅ Italy
✅ Japan

Instagram is going to test the same feature in the countries listed above. The company’s goal of providing value through content rather than numbers is still in question. Probably a good majority of the users might not fancy the feature because it’s a metric they follow to measure the growth and exposure of their profiles on Instagram. The company hasn’t provided any data about the results in public, we are expecting a report soon so that it’s transparent to the users around the globe.
