Gorilla Glass 6 seems like the next generation from Corning

The only time when time slows down is when you drop your phone. It slips from your buttery fingers, and as gravity does its work pulling the phone down, you can do nothing and watch. Well, these days phones are already pretty equipped for situations like these. Many of us get extra protection for our phones and dress them up in cases and screen guards.

But phones these days come with tough hardware and bodies, and they also come with pretty good screens too. But it doesn’t end there. Screens are getting better and stronger. Almost every single phone company rely on Corning Gorilla Glass to protect their screens and to safeguard it from cracks and scratches.

Corning has released the latest version of its screens, and it is the Gorilla Glass 6. The Gorilla Glass 6 will act as the predecessor of the of the Glass 5, and this is the next-gen glass that is coming two years after the Glass 5. So, what can this new generation of glass do?

Tougher Screens

Well, the Gorilla Glass 6 can now withstand drops from higher heights, and will also be able to withstand multiple drops. Surely music to all the clumsy hands out there! Many phones these days are adopting wireless charging, and so phones are being shipped with glass on both sides of the phone. This thus means more drops equals more cracks.

With 85 percent of the whole phone being glass, the phone at whole becomes much more vulnerable. Such phones feature Gorilla Glass, but with varying generations to manage the cost of the phone. Gorilla Glass can be pretty expensive. And so putting the best generation of the glasses on both sides can be pretty expensive not just for consumers but also for manufacturers.

Cost Effective

The new Gorilla Glass 6 is expected to fix that. The phone’s screen is reported to be light, cost-efficient and strong as always to not only manage drops but also to manage the cost of production too. These are seen as ways to help both consumers and manufacturers to not lessen the quality of the glass or phone in the name of cost.

The Gorilla Glass 6 was introduced and showcased at an event in California today. Corning is making the glass available to phone manufacturers, and phones are expected to be shipped with the glass really soon.
