Google home to become less distractive in nature
Google has brought many changes to its apps and has released updates to assist in digital wellbeing. From YouTube to its browser, it appears that the company is taking a real interest in the welfare of its users. But the company is not stopping just with its services but is also extending this new feature to its hardware too. Specifically, it’s a smart speaker.
While it not yet clear on how this new feature would work on the speaker, a new Downtime feature is upcoming that when activated, could stop people from using the speaker during certain times of the day. Now, why is this feature useful? Well, once we are in our bed, our mind tends to get lost, and many turn to their speaker. If it’s either for playing music or just asking silly questions, that can truly be a serious distraction.
Fewer Distractions
There is also a new option called “Features” that is set to replace the new Family Mode, and this might now limit the options that kids are allowed to search for, and this might also prevent them from playing voice-based games.
Since there is no official word from the company on this, we can’t say for sure how these features would work and when they would arrive on to Google Smart Speakers. It would though make sense to extend this features not to just adults but also kids too.
This is not a new feature, though. Other smart speakers like Home Line and Amazon Echo already have this option enabled, and this also includes options and new features like good behavior, which like the name suggests, promotes good behavior. This is especially useful since children are easily attracted to such gadgets, and these features can help them to leave the speakers and concentrate on their studies.
Family
This is also something that is needed not just for kids, but also for adults. Kids or adults, today staying away from our devices has become very hard. And with speakers that have the technology to answer questions and do actions from anywhere in a room, this has become further hard. Surprisingly, no one has criticised this move by Google, because let’s face it. We all know that this is something that is needed.
Google is also expected to make further changes in the coming days. For its services that is pertaining to its productivity services too, changes are expected to be made very soon.
