First Prototype of Flying Car Released
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was popular for a reason. It took something so mundane and simple as a car and made it fly. And that just sums up what humans have tried to do since the car was invented.
Once it was made clear that humans can be transported easily from one place to another in the car, the dreams of using the car to cover great distances flying began. Though it premiered in a ton of sci-fi movies, it always remained a dream. Well, that is until now. Silicon Valley has come out with a prototype of a flying car, and it is simply marvelous. Marcus Leng, the inventor calls his invention “a personal aviation vehicle” that does not need professional flying skills to control this vehicle.
Termed as the Blackfly, the vehicle is a single seater aircraft with 8 powerful motors inbuilt. The device is capable of flying easily, like a drone. The inventor is pretty confident of his invention, and with good reason.
The vehicle has gone through a lot of tests and is only now seeing the light of day. According to Marus Leng, the vehicle has flown over 10,000 miles and has gone over thousand-plus flights. The vehicle has gone over a total payload of over 200 pounds.
Dream
But this is not a new concept. Over the years many prototypes were made and tested. The reason lies in the absence of the technology that was available at the time. Calculations all had to made by hand, but an idea of this size needed computers, and that was something that was not there at that time.
But that is not the story now. Companies around the world are investing in and researching flying cars. For example, Google’s co-founder Larry Page is supporting the research and production of two flying car projects. Uber is going on a much more larger scale and is supporting the development and implementation of flying taxis.
And, how much this vehicle would cost? Not expensive, surprisingly. The “Blackfly” would cost the price of an SUV, and would probably be available for sale next year. The brains behind this project firmly believe that this vehicle can easily be flown by anyone, and all they need is just 5 minutes in a simulator to know how this works.
But getting an idea like this to fly is easier said than done. Well, technology is all for cooperation. Legal and regulatory issues stand in the way, and maneuvering through those is not easy. Flying, though convenient, is something that governments across the world take seriously.
But it seems that the company has already won a part in the issue. The vehicle has received the classification of an ultralight aircraft, and that this means that this vehicle can’t fly at night or over urban areas. But that is actually the idea of the vehicle. Short distance trips at a very short time. The vehicle can travel 25 miles on its electric batteries.
But what else that should be looked forward to is the joy of flying. That is something that cannot be just forfeited like that. The joy when you are up in the air among the clouds is one thing, but when you are in control of the flying, the joy surpasses all other wonders.
