When fake news is more powerful than truth
The term “viral” got a life after the introduction of social media websites like Facebook and twitter. A lot of content, pictures and videos are getting viral every single day (at least every week).
But, are you promoting the right thing? or are you sharing something without even knowing that it’s fake?
Fake News
Recently, a study conducted at MIT proved that fake news are getting viral easily than truth. The study was conducted on twitter and other social media websites to understand the depth of fake news getting viral on these platforms.
The sad truth is that people are not really worried about the news, it’s all about sharing it first. A lot of social media users these days are not even verifying the authenticity of the news before sharing it.
The kind of impact and the problem which is being created by these fake news is huge. A simple interesting fake tweet from someone can make it go viral like forest fire and finally end up killing someone or destroying someone’s personal life.
This is not the kind of social media we want!
Social Media
The concept of social media websites is to keep users updated about what their friends and relatives are doing, to find new friends or to mingle with like minded people, to understand and take part in what’s happening around the world and to make a positive impact within the planet.
But, what’s happening is totally unbearable.
Let it be twitter, Instagram or Facebook, each and every social media websites has its own great advantages and features to help you keep connected with your friend and even your favorite celebrity or a brand.
But sharing news or even an image or a video without verifying it’s authenticity is nothing but being a part of the trouble making. A lot of people’s lives are being affected very badly due to some of the fake news which are getting viral.
This is the time to understand this problem and to react. Next time, when you see your favorite actor’s death news online, do verify it before sharing it.
You got the point!
