Facebook Tries to Cope Up From Major Hack

Facebook’s breach has been one of the most discussed breaches in recent times. The social network has been under the hammer for a very long time and has dealt many severe blows. From data sourcing to hacking accounts, the social network has weathered many severe storms. And right now, Facebook has been dealt another blow. And this is a big one.

Facebook has announced that over 30 million users accounts have been hacked between July 2017 and September 2018. And these hackers have exploited a security breach to steal personal data. At first, the security department of Facebook overestimated the impact of this attack by reporting nearly 50 million accounts.

Multiple Hacks

But then, the company revised the calculations and estimated that just 30 million accounts have been affected. The hackers managed to get away with personal information of users, and they have managed to export all personal data. However, the threat of information concerning payment data was not breached. And that is a breather.

In addition, this is the same for third-party applications. And that is something that is bothering many. This cyber attack affected not just Facebook but third-party apps that are tied up with Facebook.

Security Concerns

But Facebook’s own apps like Instagram and WhatsApp have not been affected. And with this much loss, Facebook is compensating. The owners of these 30 million accounts will be contacted personally. But there is a danger there too. If any European accounts have been hacked, then Facebook would be facing a major penalty. The company already does not have a good rapport with the country, and now this can be a major puncture for the company. The company also needs to discuss potential liability, and everyone is looking forward to that next step.

Facebook is also in deep waters for releasing its first hardware at a very wrong time. At a time when everyone is concerned over their data on Facebook, the company released its hardware that has a camera and a microphone that never goes off. Many have already made it clear that that is a product they would never be buying, and the reason is not a mystery.
