Digital Clothing: genius or ridiculous?

Take a closer look to this sweatshirt “Bouquet of Sunflowers” from DRESSX. Do you notice anything strange? It’s actually a digital piece of clothing, it does not exist in real life.

How does it work?

While going through a website dedicated to digital fashion, you have a large catalogue of clothing created by different designers. Before buying your choice, you have to upload a picture of yourself. Why? Because the point of digital clothing is to insert what you purchased by using PhotoShop. After two or three days, you receive the results and it’s (mostly) seamless and mindblowing.

Regarding the pricing, it ranges from $20.00 USD to more than $1,000.00 USD (this is not a drill).

Still indecisive? No worries, you can try them on in real time by using the DRESSX app. In the same way we use filters on Snapchat, you have access to some of the collection and take a look. It’s still a bit rough, though.

Why?

According to DRESSX, it’s all about sustainability: “More than 40 billion items generated by fashion industry end up in landfills.” By providing original digital fashion, people can still enjoy the idea of wearing something new and out of the ordinary without polluting the Earth.

Of course, the main goal is to share the results on Instagram and see if your friends and followers can tell if it’s a real piece of clothing or not.

Bottom Line

At first glance, the idea seems odd: “why would anyone buy it if you cannot touch it and own it?”. However, we must admit that the technology and the creativity behind digital fashion is impressive and allow everyone to give it a try by wearing unique outfits while saving the planet at the same time. Plus, designers can fully express themselves and create something that goes beyond their imagination.
