Saving the world with permanent teleworking
Working from home is the new keyword, even though that same concept was active within freelancers and few small business owners. It’s now a keyword used and experienced by over a billion human beings. Below is the report from Google trends where you can see this growing trend.
Okay, so this trend speaks for itself with ups and downs. But the question is whether or not the post-COVID situation will help the world even though it’s already killing it from multiple perspectives. But the after-effects due to COVID-19 – especially regarding the pattern change in work-culture – is definitely going to help some companies and the world.
Permanent
You might have already noticed several headlines from top-notch companies like Google or Facebook are setting their workforce in a “permanent work from home” mode to build a pandemic proof company. Advancements in technology are helping them do the same without affecting their productivity.
But on the flip side, imagine the kind of money saved by the companies by putting their double-digit percentage of the workforce into teleworking. Less office space utilization means fewer offices required and it implies that companies won’t be showing much of interest in the expansion of their physical presence by investing a bulk load of money into infrastructure.
Resources
Well, putting human resources at their own comfort space is helping the world save its own resources: lower electricity consumption, fewer carbon emissions due to fewer transportation requirements, and the list go on. The good thing about bigger companies with a huge number of employees is their investment capabilities in emerging technologies to ensure human resource productivity.
As long as you get the work done, your company is safe, and so is your job.
Maybe the future is even brighter, meaning we might get back to normal, but it seems that it won’t happen anytime soon. As long as there is a pandemic and a rising difficulty to develop a vaccine, culture keeps changing. Most importantly, people’s subconscious memory is being wired to live alongside the pandemic which is a bit hard to pull back.
But as long as it doesn’t cost a dime to be optimistic, let’s stay confident about the future.
